Types of Internet
There are three main types of internet data transmission in Malaysia, namely:
- fibre which is made from glass – faster speed.
- DSL that uses normal copper telephone cables – up to 8 Mbps in Malaysia.
- wireless internet using 3G, 4G and 5G

Fibre Internet
Fibre internet is the most popular internet service and its connection is more stable. Since its introduction around 2007, there are more than 2 million TM unifi customers not including Maxis fibre customers. Information on the number of Maxis fibre service customers could not be obtained.
Because data is transmitted using light, this internet service is the fastest internet service to date. The maximum speed offered so far is 1000Mbps from DiGi Telecommunications Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
The benefits of fibre internet.
Among the benefits of fibre internet are
- Speed - it offers speeds of up to 1000 Mbps (in Malaysia) .
- Stable speed – Less interference of stalled or frozen images.
- Able to offer IPTV services at 4K quality.
- The price per 1Mbps is cheaper than DSL.
- Unlimited data.
- Suitable for online games.
Although there are many benefits of fibre, there are still many more areas in our country that have not been covered by fibre, especially in rural areas.
